We spent a rest day in Nairobi, out first big Western city for a very long time. Much good food was eaten, internet cafes were visited and, most important of all, my front suspension shocks had been reparied under warranty and were sitting in the Nairobi DHL office waiting for me to collect. Also arrived was my supply of anti-malarial Malarone tablets for the rest of the trip plus some goodies: two big bags of peanut M&Ms and two big bags of Sainsburys honey roast cashew nuts, which would later proove to play an instrumental role in "the bush-hog incident" while on Safari in Tanzania. After a dangerous 20k convoy ride out of Nairobi (cars trying to cut into the peleton and overtake the group on the inside shoulder)there were two days of riding, during which we crossed the border into Tanzania, before a three day rest period in Arusha, Tanzania. These were two beautiful days of riding, I cycled both days with Huberte, hilly but very scenic, lush vegetation, small mountain ranges alongside us catching the light at various parts of the days ride. A days ride out of Nairobi we camped at Namanga, just before the border into Tanzania, and all went across the border the following morning. It was another beautiful day's ride from the border into Arusha - undulating terrain at the base of Mount Meru and then descent into Arusha. The heavens opened in the afternoon and we hitched a good lift for part of the way in a pickup truck carrying a land-rover in the back. Quite a sight - our bikes were in the back of the landrover in the back of the pick up truck. We picked up Gergo along the way, and he sat in the cab of the landrover while we sat in the cab of the truck. We rolled into Masai Camp site in Arusha ready for our three day rest period which would be filled with a three day Safari trip to Ngorogoro crater and the Serengeti.
